CompeTrax's e-Learning component can link to, or be part of, a simple or sophisticated electronic learning system. e-Learning has the benefits of being distance and time independent – people can learn anywhere at a time and place that is convenient to them.

ImageIn this section, we wish to demonstrate sample applications that could be used to assist individual practitioners with their professional development. Professional associations will develop this component based on their expertise, resources and needs of their members.

Examples of e-Learning Resources

Steppingstones / CompeTrax

Here are some examples of e-Learning modules that we have developed.

1. Using Competency Data to Better Manage Health Professions – this is our presentation at the National Continuing Competence Conference (NCCC) held in Toronto in November 2007. It has been converted into an e-Learning module. (36:40 minutes)

2. Learning to Learn Tutorial – this Flash video tutorial is designed to motivate and assist health care practitioners to embrace ongoing professional development. The tutorial describes why professional development is important; how to assess, plan and evaluate learning activities; and, provides suggestions as how to make learning most effective and successful. The tutorial includes a 21 item self-test quiz.

For research and evaluation purposes we have produced this tutorial in three versions:

  1. Learning to Learn – single female narrator (17:06 minutes excluding quiz)
  2. Learning to Learn – two female narrators (14:51 minutes excluding quiz)
  3. Learning to Learn – female and male narrators (14:50 minutes excluding quiz)

We would appreciate your feedback on which version you prefer as we general comments and suggestions.

3. Patient Assessment e-Learning Course – this is an e-Learning version of the "Patient Assessment Self-Assessment Tool" document produced by the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of British Columbia (Canada). The actual course will include some 15 different modules.
