Welcome to the CompeTrax Test and Quiz Centre. We have installed a couple of sophisticated test/quiz delivery and tracking software packages to demonstrate how these can be used for competency assessment, learning and professional development planning.

The first example is a test management software package that has a test item bank and records all responses and results. This application can be used for formal testing situations such as challenge and accreditation examinations. These tests can also be used by members to test their knowledge, for learning (when feedback is provided) and by the Association / College to monitor overall levels of knowledge.

After you log in (using your username and password) to the CompeTrax Test & Quiz Centre, you will see the tests available to you. Simply click on a test to take it.

Click on "Reports Manager" to see a list of the tests you have taken and the results. Click on "Administration" to change your password, and/or to update your contact information.  

The detailed results of each test can be used by an Association / College to improve the quality of their tests and quizzes, and also identify learning needs of its members.

Here is an another example of an online, interactive evaluation tool that can be used by practitioners to test their knowledge in a variety of areas. The demo test randomly selects 10 items from a pool of test questions. You are notified if you got the answer correct or not. At the end of the test, you can review to the test to see what the correct answers are.

1. Learning Nurse Resource Network – our latest website with advanced tests and quizzes for nurses.   

1. Licensed Practical Nurse Resource Network – our website for LPNs has a Test and Quiz Centre with over 20 tests of interest to nurses.

2. Workplace Health and Safety – a website operated by the Alberta Government with 25 + quizzes on topics related to workplace health and safety.

3. ExpertRating Quizzes and Fun Tests – this site has hundreds of quizzes including many on drug information, diseases, medical and health conditions.

4. Caring 4 You – this is a listing of online resources for RNs and LPNs including many tests and quizzes as well as tutorials.

These sites and resources should be evaluated by Associations / Colleges to ensure that the content and responses are applicable and appropriate to their jurisdictions.

Tests and quizzes can be used as part of your learning in four ways:

1. Self assessment: Tests can help you determine what you know and what you don't know! Taking one of the self-assessment tests in a competency area can help you with your self-assessment process and preparing your Learning Plan.

2. Challenge exams: By taking a challenge exam in a particular competency area, you can demonstrate that you have (or don't have) the necessary knowledge. If you pass the exam, then it is unnecessary to take the course or do the learning module.

3. Lesson feedback: Tests and quizzes can be used in a learning module to provide you feedback on how well you understood the content and concepts. If you did poorly on the quiz, you need to review the content again.

4. Learning Evaluation: Tests are used at the end of learning module to demonstrate to you and the College that you have acquired the necessary knowledge related to that competency. You need to pass your final exam to receive your Program Credits that you record in your Learning Plan.
